Texas A&M University at Qatar to Host Annual Research-Industry Partnership Showcase

Texas A&M at Qatar will host its fourth research-industry partnership showcase on 23 April 2015 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

The showcase will highlight the research work success that has been achieved through collaborating with the local industry, enhance the existing collaboration and create opportunities for new collaborations and give their researchers exposure to real-world problems, which will help them make their research more relevant to Qatar’s industry challenges.

The event will promote dialogue between university researchers and industry representatives on collaboration potentials, mutual interests and shared opportunities for advancing the State of Qatar’s national vision and strategic development goals through research and partnerships.

Showcase chair and professor of electrical and computer engineering at Texas A&M University at Qatar, Dr Ali Ghrayeb, said:

The upcoming annual showcase aims at strengthening and widening the ties and partnership with the local industry. This year’s event has been designed to enhance the interaction among participants by introducing two panel sessions that will feature leaders from academia and industry, in addition to a technical poster session and student presentations that will be delivered by our senior undergraduate students.’

Texas A&M University, recognised as having one of the premier engineering programmes in the world, has offered undergraduate degrees in chemical, electrical, mechanical and petroleum engineering at Qatar Foundation’s Education City campus since 2003, and graduate courses in chemical engineering since fall 2011. Almost 300 engineers have graduated from Texas A&M at Qatar since 2007. In addition to engineering courses, Texas A&M at Qatar provides classes in science, mathematics, liberal arts and the humanities. All four of the engineering programmes offered at Texas A&M at Qatar are accredited by ABET. Faculty from around the world are attracted to Texas A&M at Qatar to provide this educational experience and to participate in research activities now valued at over US$135 million, and that address issues important to the State of Qatar.

The daylong showcase will include student presentations, poster session and two panel sessions by leaders from local industry. The panelists include distinguished speakers from leading industry stakeholders, and Qatar Foundation (QF). This event will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to pose grand challenges that can help set the direction of research activities at Texas A&M University at Qatar and to provide feedback on the university’s past and present initiatives and contributions in the research arena.
